Overview

This course offers advanced study of archaeology, from the first principles to current issues and debates.

If your first degree is in another subject, it is an excellent conversion course, preparing you for specialised research at PhD level.

You’ll learn how to manage your own research, from planning and execution through to presenting your findings.

We’ll encourage you to think about recent advances in theory and methods and how they might change the face of archaeology. We also want you to think about your own ambitions in this context. What kind of archaeologist do you want to be?

There are two ways to take the MA: the research track is assessed by a dissertation while the vocational track is assessed by an extended fieldwork placement.

You can choose to pursue either a Research or Vocational pathway: the former involves completing a dissertation, the latter involves undertaking a fieldwork placement over the summer.
