The MSc Sociology and Social Research, which is recognised by the ESRC as a research training course, is designed to equip postgraduate students with advanced knowledge of both issues and applied methods in sociological analysis.

The programme supports students in developing independent social research skills, and applying them in such contemporary subject areas as work, crime, migration, health, the media and the body. It also engages students in the discussion of issues and perspectives from both classical and contemporary sociological theories.

The programme is an excellent grounding if you wish to pursue a PhD in sociology, and can also be a stepping stone for those who wish to pursue a career in the public, private or voluntary sector.
