At a time when national frameworks are increasingly being called into question by globalisation, this programme analyses the historical, social, cultural and linguistic effects arising from the traffic across national boundaries. Individual modules examine historical and contemporary transnational phenomena at the intersection of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Transnationalism challenges our thinking within national frameworks yet also throws up new questions about the sites and processes of power in an interconnected human world. We examine these questions from the perspective of different case studies and examples, based on a wide range of geographical locations.

The MA in Transnational Studies explores the role and impact of cross-border relations in a globally interconnected space. We examine transnationalism both as a concept and a set of practices and politics in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Programme structure

This programme is divided into 180 credits. 120 credits are obtained from taught modules with the remaining 60 credits relating to the dissertation.
