The Fashion Management with Marketing course is aimed at students
who wish to pursue a commercial career within the fashion industry.
The course offers a business management and marketing focus with
specific elements covering the professional disciplines of retailing,
and buying and merchandising. You will also be given an overview of
how products are created, developed and produced for the business
environment. You will not necessarily be from a design background and
will be considered without a portfolio.
Whilst based in the fashion school, the course introduces you to
generic marketing principles and strategies delivered by specialist
staff working in the Faculty of Business, Sport and Enterprise.
Industry liaison is supported through professional projects associated
with companies and work-based learning. |
Graduates have knowledge of the fashion process (design,
development, production and promotion) and how the business aspects of
the industry operate. This includes forecasting, merchandising,
finance, marketing and branding. They also develop skills in
communication, presentation, research, evaluation, and team working.
This is a competitive career area and opportunities for gaining
relevant experience and making helpful network contacts in the
industry are useful. www.skillset.org provides detailed and current
information about the industry and also job profiles for a wide range
of business roles within the industry in its fashion section.
The transferable skills acquired and understanding of business are
also valued by employers outside the fashion industry.
The wide range of career paths in the industry include:
- fashion PR
- retail operations
- fashion forecasting
- fashion merchandiser
- fashion buyer
- account manager
