Overview
Austria’s export economy has succeeded in setting international standards in many fields, notably in industrial plants, machinery and technical goods. These global operations generate a high demand for suitably qualified sales and marketing personnel.
Focus
The fascinating concept of this interdisciplinary degree programme is based on the following core competences:
- Sales and sales management
You will be able to conceptualise, evaluate, push forward and control strategic sales decisions. You will understand the manifold layers of the subject ”sales“ from the perspective of e.g. innovation, cross cultural management, purchase and will be able to develop logical alternatives for proactive action for yourself.
- B2B marketing
You will be able to develop and push forward strategic marketing concepts for investment goods including background challenges of cross-cultural character. You will get a profound knowledge about the specifics of organizational buying behaviour and you will be able to make marketing-related decisions on the basis of profound analyses.
- Cross-cultural sales and management
You will get a profound introduction into cultural differences and similarities around the globe in order to enable you to react in a professional way when challenges of that kind have to be mastered. The compulsory semester abroad and field trips will give you further profound crosscultural insights.
- Practical skills
As a university of applied sciences programme, we connect a complex structure of the scientific backgrounds needed with the immediate application in real industrial life, especially in the home market EU and in emerging markets.
- Management and leadership skills
A special module will give you the chance to develop good insights into management and leadership challenges of an international job profile.
On the basis of current insights from research and teachings the students of Global Sales and Marketing (GSM) acquire sound sales and practical expertise. The transfer of the knowledge into practice becomes, among other things, guaranteed by the enterprise projects. The students master problem solving on the basis of concrete tasks in enterprises. In the context of their final degree work, the thesis, the students are concerned with a practice-relevant problem definition and furnish the enterprise with scientific-based solutions. Over 200 domestic and foreign enterprises regularly use and successfully co-operate with the degree programme. Among the co-operation partners are renowned companies such as BMW, BRP-Rotax, Engel, MAN, Palfinger, Pöttinger, SKF, voestalpine and ZF. For the widening of their international horizons GSM students study at one of the 100 plus
partner universities abroad. Interested students can actively co-operate in the extensive research projects of the course of studies. This opportunity is also open to GSM graduates, who want to write a doctoral thesis. With their final degree – Master of Arts in Business (MA) – graduates are qualified to pursue a related doctoral degree in a domestic or foreign university.
Specialization
In semester 3, the programme offers an intense specialization in both B2B marketing and sales management in order to deepen your knowledge in these fields. The geographical focus of the programme is on the EU as “home market“ and the BRIC countries.
