Entry qualification

High school / secondary education (or higher) It is highly recommended that Chemistry is covered until the end of secondary school, but this is not a mandatory admission requirement. This means that if your diploma does not have a final examination in Chemistry, you can catch up on the missing knowledge with specific modules that are included in the programme. You need to successfully complete these modules in the first year. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Overview

The production of healthy livestock is the driving force towards global food security. With an ever-growing population to feed, farmers need to increase production and optimise distribution on a national and international scale. The animal husbandry sector needs individuals who pay the utmost attention to the care, health and well-being of farm animals but who also understand the basics of business administration, including marketing, entrepreneurship and innovation.

The programme will teach you the ins and outs of nutrition, immunology and diagnostics, disease control and animal welfare. Courses in applied research, scientific research methods and project management form an integral part of the programme. In addition, you will acquire scientific knowledge of the main species within the husbandry system: cattle, horses, pigs and poultry. After the first year you’ll select a preferred work field. You can specialize in Equine Sports and Business or Applied Animal Science. You will put your skills into practice by doing an internship and complete the programme by doing a graduation project. With Equine Sports and Business, you will prepare yourself to work in the equine sector. Think of breeding, sport, leisure or business activities at all different levels. The equine industry is rapidly expanding throughout the world, and therefore, continues to professionalize as a sector. During this program you deal with topics such as nutrition, breeding, exercise physiology, training, rider physiology and psychology plus welfare and behaviour. In addition, subjects such as finance, managerial economics, management, marketing and international trade are important elements of the programme. Besides knowledge you also learn important skills like networking, advising, planning and organising.

With Applied Animal Science you focus on nutrition, immunology and diagnostics, disease control, animal welfare and many other topics related to animals. Courses on marketing, management and business administration are given as well. You will also learn about applied research and scientific research methods and project management.

Career opportunities

The animal husbandry sector is full of opportunities. As a graduate, you will be guaranteed a head-start on the job market as you will already have valuable work experience. This way, you will have plenty of career options to choose from. You can work as:

• advisor to a supplier
• relations manager
• commercial officer
• management officer
• entrepreneur, for instance a dairy cattle farmer.

If your ambition is to base your career on the business and management aspects of your degree, you can find work at a bank or at an insurance company. Other appealing career paths include management positions, project management and scientific research.

If you specialise in the Equine sector, you can for instance become an event organiser. Like some of our graduates, you can also decide to spend some more time abroad after finishing your studies.
