For this course we will require you to attend an Applicant Day and bring your portfolio for assessment, you should include work that showcases your experience, interests and aspirations, as well as your passion for the subject. We’d expect that a typical portfolio would contain: examples of your drawing skills; examples of your recent coursework; examples of creative computer skills; evidence of animation including storyboards – this should be in DVD format and no longer than two minutes. Overview
Our BA (Hons) Animation degree is one of the best known and highly regarded courses of its kind, with alumni including Oscar and BAFTA winners, and creators of beloved animations such as Peppa Pig, Fantastic Mr Fox, the Compare the Market’s ‘Meerkats’ campaign, and Hey Duggee.
Whether you want to make films using CGI software, use the latest 2D drawing processes or produce stop-motion films shot in our professionally equipped studios, you’ll be encouraged to follow your passions as you discover and develop your own creative approach to animation.

Animation is one of the most significant and rapidly expanding media fields. An enormous range of career opportunities exist in animation, from the traditional techniques of animation storytelling to drawn, model and CGI animation.
Established in 1972 by Academy Award winner Bob Godfrey as the UK’s first course to take an academic approach to animation, we pride ourselves on giving our students a comprehensive understanding of frame-by-frame image manipulation using the growing range of creative techniques. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of narrative, character development, movement, sound, and the full range of expressive and personal filmmaking techniques contemporary animation now uses.
