Entry qualification

Undergraduate diploma (or higher) A good second class honours or above in a qualifying law degree, or equivalent undergraduate degree plus Sheffield’s MA Law or any law conversion course (Common Professional Examination or Graduate Diploma in Law). We’ll also consider the appropriate level of ILEX qualification. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

Language requirements	English Accepted proof of proficiency: Cambridge English, IELTS, TOEFL or other equivalent IELTS: 7.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component TOEFL (IBT): Overall score of 80 or above, with at least 17 in Listening, 17 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking CAE: Overall score of 176 or above, with at least 162 in each component

Other requirements	At least 2 reference(s) must be provided. These should be supplied and signed by academic staff at institutions where you have studied previously. They must be presented on the official letter-headed paper of the relevant institution. Overview

Sheffield is the only research-led university in England to offer an LPC.

Our students benefit from the internationally acclaimed academic legal research being done here, which gives them an edge.

An LPC is compulsory if you plan to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales. It combines the study of law with practical training in legal research, interviewing and advising, writing, drafting and advocacy.

Our Legal Practice Course (MA in Legal Practice) is a hands-on course, using case studies and files based on those used in practice.

It incorporates performance-based assessments to hone your legal reasoning and develop skills in advocacy and client interviewing.

For even more experience, you can apply to work in our FreeLaw clinic, providing free legal advice to the local community.

The course has a high pass rate and a dedicated careers adviser within the law school to help you get the job you want.

Dissertation (submitted in August)

Your dissertation can be up to 12,000 words. You can pick any topic that interests you as long as it is related to an aspect of legal practice. Further guidance will be given in the research methods seminars.

The tutor who teaches the research methods seminars will also be your dissertation supervisor. Your dissertation supervisor will be able to answer queries by email and meet you on three occasions.
