Candidates must be able to provide a portfolio of work at interview which demonstrates their potential to study an architecture programme. A good portfolio will contain a variety of images of two and three dimensional work. These should be in a variety of techniques (such as pencil, pen, watercolour, oils), and media (for example, printmaking, textiles, models, pottery, sculpture, photography, etc.) and of a range of subjects (such as life studies, still life, urban and rural landscape, buildings); and candidates must include images of observational free-hand studies that convey an interest in. - Interview is a part of admission process |

Overview
This design-led, studio based course is a member of Interior Educators, the National Learned Society for the subject, and provides you with the practical skills and specialist knowledge to work as an interior architectural specialist from an acclaimed academic team.
Within live and directed design projects, you will develop creative, intelligent and meaningful design proposals for existing buildings thorough investigation of the existing site as a precursor to your designed intervention. You will learn to control the relationship between the existing context and your proposed interior adaptation, supported by studies in design, communication, history and theory, construction technology, environment and management.
You will take part in site visits within live projects and a European study trip to help contextualise and expand your learning. At the end of year 2 you can choose the option of an additional study abroad year, or complete the course as originally intended; all of which are designed to enrich your experience as a subject specialist and as a global citizen.
You will develop a creative portfolio of directed and self-directed design project work which will allow you to fully explore your interests within interior architecture and building adaptation, while fully expressing your ability as a designer and a future professional. You will showcase your final project work at an exhibition here in Newcastle and as part of Interior Educators in London, to maximize your reach to industry
Successful graduates can progress onto our 60 credit, one semester PG Cert in Interior Architecture course, which is professionally accredited and allows you to satsfy the ARB Part I criteria, when combined with undergraduate interior architecture study and Northumbria. This is the only course of its type and allows our graduates to achieve Part I status, as specialists in building adaptation and creative reuse.
Programme structure
Your course in brief
Year 1
You will be introduced to the fundamentals of interior architecture through studio based design projects, as well as the history, theory and evolution of architecture and interiors.
Year 2
You have the opportunity to undertake more advanced building adaptation and creative reuse projects, often live with real clients, which use and build upon the skills learned in the previous year.
Year 3
You will develop a creative portfolio of self-directed project work in response to live projects which allow you to fully explore your interests within building adaptation and express your ability as a designer.
