Overview
The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree course aims to produce an Honours-level graduate physiotherapist who can:
Practise physiotherapy competently and in any setting, using an evaluative and problem-solving approach
Respond to the changing demands of healthcare provision and to the subsequent demands their career will place upon them, through a process of evaluation and reflection.
Physiotherapists are experts in human movement. The prime purpose of physiotherapy is to restore and maintain function, activity and independence, and to prevent injury or illness through information and advice on healthy lifestyles.
Physiotherapy has a health promotion component and chartered physiotherapists have an important role to play in improving public health and meeting national targets such as those for strokes, cancer, coronary heart disease and mental health. Physiotherapists and assistants work across all healthcare settings and cover a wide range of specialisms, often as part of multidisciplinary teams.
This degree is taught over 32 weeks of the academic year, for three years.
Programme structure
You learn and develop your skills through integrated theory and clinical practice sessions. Studying at Bradford offers you a unique clinical experience, as the range of practice placements allow you to develop an understanding of the ethnic traditions, values and beliefs in delivering care that is responsive to today’s ethnically diverse society. You will be taught by a team of professional Physiotherapists, supported by other staff at the School from a number of different clinical areas, in lectures, seminars, tutorials and in small groups.
Modules are assessed using a range of different methods including written examinations, practical assessments, poster presentations and case studies. The assessment of clinical practice takes place in the clinical environment by clinical staff and University tutors.

Physiotherapy is an Allied Health Profession. It opens up a range of dynamic and exciting career opportunities in a variety of fields. Most physiotherapists work in the NHS but opportunities also arise in the private sector, sport, research, education and industry. Completion of a degree in physiotherapy will equip you with transferable skills that could be used in many areas of healthcare and other occupations.
Following graduation and registration with the HCPC, physiotherapists are expected to continue to develop their knowledge and skills through ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and we offer a variety of short courses and postgraduate study options which allow you to specialise in areas of interest.
