Overview
Aspiring performers and composers can choose to complement their chosen degree specialism with a study of the Music Industry, its organisations and legal frameworks, learn event management skills, business planning skills, and receive an introduction to music marketing and fundraising.
Programme structure
Our courses are focused on practical work, with specialist routes available in: performance; composition and improvisation; musical theatre; instrumental or vocal teaching; music business and community music.
There is an extensive programme of professional concerts and master classes on campus, free to students, as well as the chance to experience similar events at major UK conservatoires – places where many of our students go on to study as postgraduates.
The BA (Hons) Music with Musical Theatre is a combination which allows students to choose their personal balance of singing, acting and dance work, whilst accessing the huge range of other modules and performance focused study choices in music. This three-year programme is designed for vocalists and offers broader musical training with a specialism in Musical Theatre. You’ll be involved in community outreach in year one, production work in year two and devising musical theatre work in year three. What’s more, you’ll experience individual vocal lessons, ensemble and the study of different Musical Theatre styles. If you’re performance focused, you’ve the option to take dance and acting classes. Where as those choosing the composition route within the degree can centre Music with Musical Theatre.
