Overview

The Film and Television Studies BA provides an interdisciplinary approach to these two significant media. The course offers a detailed understanding of the theory, history and cultural importance of film and television.

Programme structure

Learning is through a range of critical perspectives and research skills, while there is also experience given of film production and working with professionals from the industry.

The course is unique in enabling students to benefit from both theory and some elements of practice.

There is a visiting speaker programme with past speakers including: Brian Clemens (producer/writer: The Avengers, The Professionals), David Morrissey (actor: Walking Dead, State of Play), Philip Glennister (actor: Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes), Hilary Bevan Jones (ex chair: BAFTA), and Robert Watts (producer: Return of the Jedi, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade).

Career opportunities

The skills you will obtain in this degree are particularly well suited to work with film production companies, TV production studios, radio outlets, newspapers, PR firms and advertising agencies. Many of our graduates go on to complete Masters degrees, using their undergraduate experience as the foundation to advanced study and/or practice.
