Overview
The Interactive Media Master’s programme offers a wide range of subjects focusing on the technology and engineering behind interactive media, computer games and cutting-edge online media. Graduates acquire the essential knowledge and professional skills necessary to take on innovative and complex projects in the media industry. The programme features both a substantial project component and an extensive selection of specialized courses that couple theoretical concepts with practical experience at the highest level. In addition to providing an industry-oriented education, the programme aims to develop graduates‘ communication skills and refine their systematic approaches to problem solving.
Focus
The two-year programme offers the following core subjects, which can be augmented by a selection of elective courses:
- Interactive Media
Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Vision, Speech Processing, Cooperative mWork Environments, Interactive Installations
- Games
Game Development, Game Engines, Realtime Graphics, Physics Simulation, Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Player Games, Audio
- Online Media
Advanced Web Publishing, Rich Internet Applications, Semantic Web Services/` Applications
The curriculum is supplemented by workshops, seminars and a wide range of specialized courses focusing on specific topics in interactive media. The flexibility inherent in the curriculum also allows students to study abroad for one semester at one of our partner universities. In your chosen focus areas you attend a specific number of core courses and a variable number of specialist modules. Additional interdisciplinary elective courses and seminars are also available; these vary from semester to semester

Graduates are well-rounded media professionals that have acquired substantial project experience and in-depth knowledge in one or more areas of specialization. They possess both the conceptual and design skills necessary for the development of innovative media projects and the technical skills to contribute to their subsequent implementation.
Their specific qualifications make them sought after employees in global contexts, such as in the fields of game development and multimedia authoring/production (presentations, shows, museums, kiosk systems), Web-based information systems and applications, large-scale online publishing, content management and document management, multimedia databases, electronic archives, digital asset management, cooperative workflow solutions and streaming media services.
The completion of a demanding Master‘s thesis enables graduates to continue their academic development in the form of a PhD program at universities either in Austria or abroad.
